Gili Labak, Little Paradise In Eastern Madura

My friend are planning for next trip, there's a very beautiful small island at eastern Madura. The island is very popular recently after some Instagram influencer visited those island, the island name is Gili Labak. A long time ago the people used to know this island by name Rat Island. Why? by the information of people because once on this island there are so many rats nest, so the people call it that.

We start our trip in 10 AM from Surabaya it took about 1 hour to reach Madura Island, Madura is an island. But our government build a bridge to connect Surabaya to this island. So we can use car or motocycle to reach Madura. The first city we stopped at Madura is Bangkalan, in Bangkalan we take time for lunch (famous Sinjay fried duck are originated from here) and visit the famous limestone hill. Bangkalan is renowned with it limestone hill, at least there is 2 limestone hill in Bangkalan, Arosbaya and Jeddih. Jeddih Hill became one of the largest limestone mines in East Java, but Arosbaya Hill has been abandoned for a long time and now becomes a tourist attraction in Bangkalan.

Arosbaya is quietly impressive but rather difficult if you are a traveller from outside Madura, it is in an out of the way place maybe hard to locate. Arosbaya are in northern area of Bangkalan, it about 15 km from Bangkalan city (for about 30 minutes by driving). After the first traffic light in arosbaya, turn right, go straigt ahead, then turn left, go straight then turn right. The route is same as the route to Aermata cemetary. Road to the location from the entrance is very narrow and thru an alley between houses, not recommended for large vehicles. You can park the car on the street and walk to the place (Less than 1 mile?). Ask to local people around there how to get to the limestone hill.

My first impression are ummm... very nice, limestone formations hidden in a secluded area. It has a lot of shady place and an easy walk. Best time to visit is when the sun it out and high it around 3pm while the sunlight shining over the clive of redish lime stones. Place is not too warm but can be slippery when wet.
After take some photo while enjoying the view we come back to Bangkalan for continuing our journey to Sumenep.
Journey to Sumenep by car took 3-4 hour (depend on the traffic), and took 45 minutes to reach Kalianget harbour. We arrive in kalianget at 10 PM, we take a rest for a while in Kalianget. This is most memorable part of this story in Kalianget we can't find any hotel or guest house, so we take a rest in a mosque! yes a mosque. We'll countinuing our journey by a boat crossing Madura strait at 3 AM, why 3 AM? because we don't want to miss a sunrise in sea!

Saw a sunrise in the sea are the best sunrise I ever saw, crossing Madura strait to reach Gili Labak island arround 3 hour (with traditional boat, may less with speed boat). After arrive in Gili Labak first thing you must try is walk arround this island, this island are very small by walk you only spend 45 minutes arround beach. Then after walking arround the beach we going swiming and snorkeling, this was my first time on the Gili Labak and I never seen white sand like this before. Very clean. I had tons of fun, saw some colorful fish here (Not much) and corals. Pretty place, beautiful scenary with blue sky. Never get enough to see the clear sky in Gili labak Island. You can stay here too if you want. But nothing much you can do here in night.

The snorkeling part is always exciting for me. But here, the view isn't as amazing as I expected. Some of the coral are ruined due to the lack of education of some fishermen. And the snorkeling spot are too deep for me. But I enjoyed it so much, until I forgot I already on the beach shore! Please beware my friend seing sea snake behind coral reef. Sea Snake very dangerous if you're got bitten if you're with child please keep your eyes on your child. We took a lot of photo here and back to Surabaya after the sun get high. Yeah, that was my review about my Gili Labak trip. Hope you enjoy and have a nice day :)
